Mary Lake Shrine 瑪麗湖奧古斯丁修道院

I have spent two hours of a sunny afternoon, a 30 minutes drive from Toronto, to visit the Mary Lake Augustinian Monastery, also known as Mary Lake Shrine or simply Mary Lake in King City, Ontario, Canada. The Mary Lake complex includes the property, the monastery and shrine which operates a retreat centre, residing on Keele Street, north of 15th Sideroad (Bloomington). Mary Lake is now well known as a spiritual centre for the Catholic Archdiocese of Toronto.

Originally, the property was the farm and summer home of Sir Henry Pellatt and was named for his wife Lady Mary Pellatt. Sir Henry Pellatt was a well-known Canadian financier and soldier. He is best known to his role of bringing hydro-electricity to Toronto, Ontario for the first time and also for his famous manor house called Casa Loma, also a well-known landmark in Toronto. It was the largest private residential castle ever constructed in Canada.

Mary Lake has a vast campus of 1000 acres by a beautiful lake. A small dune was constructed with the 14 stations of the cross just beside a small wooden Chapel of Grace. Mary Lake has attracted many veteran Catholics for spiritual meditation and retreat.
